The Matter of Bookshops: Histories, Communities, Practices

The Bookselling Research Network will hold its first conference at the Welsh booktown of Hay-on-Wye on the 7th & 8th of September 2022.

Registration is now open at https://bit.ly/brn_2022.

The Bookselling Research Network is a collaborative network of researchers, booksellers, publishers, and people and associations from around the world who share a common interest in the history, practice, and culture of bookselling.

The call for papers is open until 13th May, and we welcome proposals for papers exploring any aspect of bookshops, bookselling, or booksellers. Following on from our seminars this year, we are particularly keen to see proposals which focus on
•       Histories of bookshops or booksellers
•       The current practices of bookselling, including challenges, trainings, and international comparisons
•       Bookshops and communities

The conference is expected to take place in person, with some online recorded and streamed presentations for those who are not able to travel to the UK.  It is of course possible that we may need to switch to all online presentations if public health guidelines change over the summer. We will follow the guidance of the Welsh government.
