- Sophie Noël is a sociologist and Professor in information and communication studies at Paris Panthéon Assas Université (Carism). Her research examines the concept of independence in the cultural industries, more specifically in book retail and publishing, both in France and the UK. She has also studied “radical” publishers in France and engagement in publishing. Her lastest publications include « At Home in Bookshops: the Rhetoric of the Domestic Sphere in French Independent Bookshops », Logos, n°34, 2022 and Le Petit commerce de l’indépendance. Une sociologie de la librairie au 21e siècle, Presses Universitaires de Rennes, 2025.
